“The Shop” was founded by Jerry Martak in the Sacramento area in the late 1980’s to serve the Skating and Snowboarding community. After Jerry retired from the business, Kevin Watts (a former neighbor) had the idea of opening “The Shop” – Boardshop in San Ramon to serve the greater Tri-Valley area and the Interstate 680 corridor.

Kevin Watts opened “The Shop” – Boardshop in San Ramon in 1997 on San Ramon Valley Blvd. and in 2000, moved the store to its’ current location in “The Market Place” Shopping Center. The Shop is located one block from the City of San Ramon Skate Park at the corner of Bollinger Canyon Road and Alcosta Boulevard.

Kevin and Michelle Watts were inspired to take their lives in a new direction following the birth of the couples’ first child and eventually sold “The Shop” to Steve Tracy in March of 2005.
